Cooling Tower Redesign

The project proposes the reconstruction of an abandoned cooling tower into an art hub at the Shijingshan District, Beijing, China. The proposed site is located in the Shougang industrial heritage campus which sits at the western end of Beijing’s central axle road.

Being known as the earliest established steel plant of China, Shougang Steel plant was built in 1919 and shut down in 2008. Some part of out of use industrial structures was kept. With the settlement of the Olympic organizing committee in the campus, some parts of industrial structures have already been redesign into the office area for the committee. The rest of the structures currently under construction are dedicated to be the future venue of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
